Dogs:

The benefits of spaying your dog are as follows:
  • Reduces the risk of your dog developing pyometra
    • - What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a result of many factors that occur all together, such as: hormonal changes (increase in progesterone) which cause the uterus lining to thicken which produce cysts. These cysts are great breeding grounds for bacteria. It is a domino effect
    • - When does Pyometra occur?
It occurs in young-middle aged dogs. (This is why you spay your dog at 8 weeks)
  • Reduces the risk of mammary gland cancer: Mammary Gland Cancer is the second most common disease to kill dogs. By spaying your dog, the risk of them contracting mammary gland cancer is slim.

  • It eliminates the odour that comes with a dog in heat. When your dog is in heat, they tend to give off a horrendous smell.
  • Eliminates the mess that occurs when your dog is in heat. Leaving your dog outside during the time that they’re on heat will attract wild male dogs that will want to mate with her.

The benefits of neutering your dog:
  • Reduce the chances of your dog taking strolls away from home- if your dog hasn’t been neutered, it is likely that they would like to find a mate.
  • Prevents testicular cancer
  • Neutering may cause a change in behaviour- high testosterone levels may cause undesirable behaviour. Neutering may not improve your dog’s behaviour entirely as the hormone would still be present in their system.

Cats:

The benefits of spaying your cat are as follows:
  • Reduces the chances of Pyometra
  • Reduces the chances of mammary gland cancer
  • Cats usually experience difficulties when giving birth, spaying your cat will eliminate the possibilities of your cat experiencing difficult births.
  • Cats don’t have regular heat cycles and if regulated, your cat becomes prone to illnesses such as bacterial infections.

The benefits of neutering your cat are as follows:
  • Your cat will not be prone to testicular cancer.
  • Your cat is less likely to leave your home- cats also look around for a mate when on heat.
  • Male cats tend to pick fights with other male cats. Neutering your cat eliminates the desire to pick fights with other cats.
  • When male cats get into fights with other cats, they’re at a higher risk of contracting life-threatening diseases such as feline AIDS.
