Pet Insurance Things

The reality is that even as pet owners, we have a number of things on our plates. So much so, that it can be difficult to keep track of all of our pet’s needs. Well, breathe a sigh of relief, because here’s your personal checklist!

As responsible pet owners, it’s important that we brush up on our pet healthcare knowledge. The days of simply rubbing your pet’s tummy and calling it a day are over. Ensuring your pet’s health and wellbeing will require a little more effort on your part, but it will be so worth it in the end.

Let’s identify a few key things that you may be forgetting when it comes to pet care. Now, let the record show that this isn’t to shame any of your current wellness routines. The aim of this blog is to act as a little pet care checklist that you can use on a regular basis to ensure a happy, healthy pet!

Not reading the fine print

If you have been reading my blogs for a while now, you’ll notice how I will find any excuse to bring this point up. And it’s based on the fact that this is one of the most neglected elements involved in signing up for pet insurance. Far too often we are happy to skim through the terms and conditions, hope for the best and sign on the dotted line.

The issue here is that it's not only reckless but an expensive decision to make. It is important that you fully comprehend what your pet policy entails. This way you avoid a nasty surprise when you’re stuck with a hefty bill that was mentioned under ‘exclusions’. So yes, legal texts are boring to read but doing so will save both your finances and your pets life.

Not exploring all of the pet policy options

Given the current climate, it’s understandable that many of our decisions are based on cost. It’s a natural human reaction whenever we have to part with our hard-earned money! That being said, opting for the cheapest policy may turn out to be an expensive mistake in the future.

As it goes with a more affordable option, your benefits and perks are substantially less. Your coverage will be less comprehensive and more medical bills will have to be covered out-of-pocket. So, before you immediately go for the cheapest offer, make sure to thoroughly read through what will not be covered.

Not speaking to your pet insurer

Your pet insurer is undoubtedly one of your greatest assets. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable on the ins and outs of pet healthcare but pet insurance. This means that they will be able to help navigate you throughout your pet’s life! Better yet, they are your constant support system whenever you need them!

Lean on their knowledge, insights and expertise. When you are sure about an element involved in your pet policy, just call them! They want to assist you and ensure that you are getting the most out of your policy. So don’t shy away from asking for their help … That’s why they’re there!

Not making use of all of the benefits

The great thing about pet insurance is that it is designed to fully cater to the needs of your pet. This means that if you have opted for a more comprehensive policy, you need to make the most out of it. Don’t solely take your pet to the vet in a medical emergency. Take them in for annual check-ups, routine visits, dental care and so much more! A happy pet is a healthy pet so make sure to use your policy to its full extent!

It is important to remember that when you took out a pet policy you immediately gained access to the BEST. The best medical practitioners, the best medical facilities and medical support structures. It is important that you don’t slack off but use their insights and knowledge to keep your pet safe!

Final thoughts

When it comes to pet care it can often feel like a lot of trial and error. In many ways, we’re essentially learning on the job, and that is perfectly okay! However, it is important to understand that there are many pet owners who have been in similar scenarios as you.

It is, however, your job to take on the responsibility of reading up on everything pet related.

This will help ease some of your anxiety along the way! While pet insurance is there to help lead you in this journey, it’s important that you also come with your own insights. Pet insurance works best when pet owners are willing to learn, read and grow in their knowledge. When you do this, you and your pet insurer become a formidable force that will actively look to protect your pet!

So, dedicate a few hours every month to brush up on your knowledge, avoid the above mentioned common mistakes and prove that you are a truly responsible pet owner!

Until next time,
